How Data Gaps on Haryana’s Education Portal Are Undermining Financial Aid
In a concerning development for female students from disadvantaged backgrounds, technical errors and incomplete data entries on Haryana’s school education portal are jeopardizing the disbursement of crucial monthly scholarships. This issue directly impacts girls in the BC-A (Backward Class A) category, particularly those studying in classes IX to XII.
What’s Happening?
- A wave of unverified student profiles—exceeding 3,200 in Nuh district—was discovered during the second quarter of the 2024–25 academic year. The errors stemmed from missing or incorrect bank account numbers, IFSC codes, and PTP IDs.
- Schools immediately received directives on August 8 from the Haryana Directorate of School Education, instructing them to urgently update and verify student data to ensure stipend payments under the “Monthly Stipend for BC-A Students” scheme.
- While significant progress was made by the third quarter, over 480 profiles in Nuh remained unverified. Some schools, such as Government Girls Senior Secondary School Taoru, reduced their unverified count from 138 to just 2; Ferozpur Jhirka resolved all pending cases. However, other schools are still lagging behind.
Why This Matters for Girl Students
- Financial Risk: Without verified profiles, deserving students stand to lose monthly stipends—critical support for textbooks, study materials, and day-to-day school expenses.
- Gender and Equity at Stake: Girls from BC-A communities already face systemic disadvantages. Losing access to scholarships could raise dropout risks and threaten their right to education.
- Accountability and System Integrity: The situation highlights how administrative or technical lapses can hinder welfare outcomes, especially when the portal is the primary medium for funding delivery.
